Joel Scott is an educator, coach, and consultant. A seasoned teacher, he has taught almost every grade level from Kindergarten to the overaged under credited population. Throughout his career in education Joel has created innovative culturally responsive curriculum, managed multiple teaching staffs, and developed highly effective leaders and teachers.
Joel is a Partnership Director at Turnaround for Children, an organization that utilizes neuroscience and catalyzes the science of learning and development into tools and services for educators. Working with schools in high poverty, high adversity communities, Joel delivers learning sessions and coaches superintendents, principals, and school leaders to create and develop healthy social emotional schools. At Turnaround Joel also supports the org’s business development, including systems level consulting, thought leadership, and marketing opportunities, including large group keynote speaking. He leads the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and contributes to operational strategy.
Joel received his M.S.Ed from Brooklyn College and B.A. from Binghamton University in Psychology and Africana Studies. In 2015 he was selected to be an Education Pioneers Fellow and executed his Fellowship work at the NYC DOE Office of Teacher Effectiveness. Joel now currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Education Pioneers NYC Alumni Board. Joel is also an Advisory Board Member for Transformational Leadership at Pace University Lubin School of Business. When not trying to create equity and opportunity in the education and business sectors Joel is a consultant for It’s Showtime NYC, an initiative from the mayor’s office that provides subway dancers legal opportunities to grow professionally and personally
